I've got a really urgent one on my hands. My sharepoint server crashed
today. When it came back up, search stopped working. I keep seeing an

it? Thank you very much in advance.

Search is not my area of expertise, but wouldn't a full crawl (recreating the
content index) fix this problem?

Do I achieve that by resetting 'Crawled content'?

your SharePoint index  may be corrupted and full crawl is definitely
needed. But you may want to run the "Reset content  Source" first to
ensue you have a clean start before the full crawl. Result of running a
full crawl on top of a corrupted index is unpredictable.

If your content is huge and full crawl takes days, you should have a
backup plan in place (using proven SharePoint backup tool, not the
regular server  and SQL backups).

I've attempted to do that and now search  Settings are completely
unavailable. I've tried restarting both of the search services but
search settings are still unavailable.

Does this machine also provide indexing services?  If so. try running
"STSADM -o osearch -action stop" on the search  server.  This will stop all
of the servers and remove all of your index  files.  You should then be able
to go back  into the CA site and reenable the services.  You'll probably
need to go back into the SSP and re-define your indexer as well.
