Search Service is not working

Asked By: Shasta    Date: Jan 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1515

I had some IIS glitch this week, and was working that when I
noticed that the search service hadn't had a successful crawl in several

I am now looking through the logs and I am seeing this line:
Configuring the Search Application web service Url to 'https://

Which is funny since I am not using SSL, and it is not configured to use
it (I checked)

Also see this:
Configuring the Search Application web service proxy Url to 'http://

So, in any event the search service isn't hitting the sites, and if it
is looking for https that would be why.

Any ideas on how to kick this in? delete the SSP and recreate it maybe?

We had a somewhat similar problem when we built an updated farm recently using
.NET 3.5. Crawls worked, but the SharePoint admin screen couldn't display any
status information on crawls etc. Even though we configured  it not to,
SharePoint seemed to be using https  on its web service  calls to the ssp. We
could see in the logs  that these calls were failing due to issues with the SSL
certificate in IIS. We resolved the issue by manually installing a certificate
to the ssp web  service in IIS.

Subsequently the issue was documented and there is a .NET hotfix
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962928). I'm not sure if this is your problem
but it's a possibility.
