search and replace content

Asked By: Keaton    Date: Dec 26    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2677

I'm looking for a way to search and replace all instances of a
specific phrase on our sharepoint sites. Anyone have any ideas? Can
it even be done?

Where does the specific phrase live? List data, document meta-data,
unstructured document data, etc.?

Anywhere… we’re looking to replace  it however we can. Documents, lists, meta-data, sites, etc.

Hard to write a program for a non-specific business need.

You could certainly iterate every ListItem in every List in every Web in
every Virtual Server evaluating the indexOf for each string encountered
looking for the replace  text. If found, replace it with the new text.
That would handle all list and library metadata.

For every list you encounter you could check the title and description
and replace the text if found. Etc...
