We are currently using MOSS 2007 and WSS 3.0. We have the enterprise
license.

What is the purpose of SharePoint Search Server 2008? What comes with
the enterprise license. Is there any value is adding Search Server 2008?
Sitting here reading all of this stuff, I think I have confused myself.

Also with Keywords and Best Bets, do you do that at the site collection
or at the portal (home) site sitting. How does the location where you
create the key word effect the search results. If I crate it at
http://portal or create it at http://portal/sites/hr will I get
different results if I am pointing to the same location.

Search Server 2008 is a separate product that is essentially WSS + the
Search features from MOSS. MOSS Enterprise includes all the features of
Search Server as long as you are running either SP1 + the Infrastructure
Update or SP2.

Search Server 2008 EXPRESS is a separate (FREE) product that is essentially WSS
+ the search  features from MOSS.

Search Server 2008 is a separate (PURCHASED)product that adds additional
functionality to moss  search like Federated queries.

Not exactly - MOSS + Infrastructure Update (or SP2) has all of the
features that Search Server 2008 does - it does not add anything to MOSS
unless you are talking about SP1 or older. Your breakdown of the
difference is correct otherwise.

You are right. I forgot that functionality had been included in SP2.
Most of the stuff I've been working on is still at the SP1 level, so to get the
added benefits like federated searches we've had to install search  Server 2008.
