Out of 14 document libraries on my site, one will not return any search
data…even though the data is very obviously there. I should also mention that
this library is one of two on my sandbox/test site (other one works fine), but I
can't find any property differences between it and the others.

Any chance that its contents are unsupported files, like PDF (without an
appropriate iFilter installed)?

no...just Word and Excel files.

Have you checked the settings on the site  and library  to make sure that they
are set to return  Search results? Also, have you checked the crawl log in
the SSP content source that should be crawling the content to look for

Make sure the Advanced Settings of the document  Library has the following
setting configured as below.

Search Specify whether this document library  should be visible in
search results. Users who do not have permission to see these items will not
see them in search  results, no matter what this setting is. Allow
items from this document library to appear in search results? Yes No

All of those checked-out fine. The ultimate resolution was to take down the
site (which was only being used as a test-bed), and rebuild from scratch. Works
like a champ now.

I'm just getting my feet wet with SP so I'll probably be posting again about one
thing or another.
