OK, now I am looking to make my (final?) customization, a better search
function. My Top Level Site has a couple of document libraries that hold
publications (these are academic in nature). I want to provide a way to
search the document text or list attributes from the top level or subsites.
So I think I am going to create a search page and incorporate it into every
site.

Also, I want to add a "Research Service" to the "Research Task Pane" for the
document editors so that they can use the Publications Library as they
generate new content to look up references etc.

So here is what I think I should do (comments welcome):

1) Write a Web Service that searches the document library (s).

2) Write an aspx that gets parameters and accesses this search service.

3) Document how to configure this service into the Research Task Pane.

4) Write other research services for the Research Task Pane to access
outside services (like Medline) and possible search these as well in my
search aspx.
