Search does not work

Asked By: Jill    Date: Jun 05    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 971

I am setting up a demo portal and the search feature does not work. Not
sure what is causing this and how to start troubleshooting on this...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try to check in Window services to make sure that the
sharepoint search  , index or any services relating to
ssharepoint is started. Also , configure your search
by checking the search scope and updating the indexes.

Also, have a look at your database catalog files. The index should be updated
with recent date. If not, rebuild the index to work

Also if your portal  side is working but WSS is not check this:

If you see this bug, you need to first make sure that:

1.The Portal can search  itself

2. The Portal can search wss sites

If the portal can not search the wss sites. Make sure that Under the Windows
Sharepoint Service Central Administration that Full-Text Searching is

Next make sure that in SQL Server that xyz_Site has a full text catalog
created for it. If not follow the SQL Server instructions to make a
full-text catalog for UserInfo, UserData, Lists, and Docs tables.

Now, if this is all done and the Portal still can not search WSS sites then
go back into SQL Server and execute this stored proc

exec sp_fulltext_database 'enable'

I of course suggest doing this on a test server first.
