Search Design

I am currently investigating how to best setup our SharePoint 2010
search environment. We are currently looking at changing our SharePoint
hosting environment to a new location and keeping our file servers where
they are today. My question is this, if I am crawling my file servers
in location 1, is it possible to have two different search servers, one
in location 1 for the file server crawl and one in location 2 for the
SharePoint site collection crawl all in the same farm?

Geographic separation of servers in the same SharePoint farm is something
that shouldn't be tried. You may get it to work, depending on network
bandwidth and latency, but its never a good design.

There is a webinar coming up on SharePoint search architecture, you might want
to attend that.

I am copying it to your email address, as group emails are moderated and takes a
while to arrive.
