Search on content types without using scopes

  Asked By: Jay    Date: Aug 06    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 13236

I have different content types defined and i modified
the 'ResultType' drop down in Advance search page. I added all the
content types.

Modified the XML file to add the managed properties and for each
content type added the

<query>ContentType='ABC'</query> . Here is the code:

<ResultType DisplayName="Document" Name="ABCdocument">

<PropertyRef Name="XZ" />

<PropertyRef Name="Lm" />

<PropertyRef Name="Version" />

i used 'ContentType' , 'ContentClass' & 'ContentSource' but the
result is empty. Its not returning any result.

All the above on search server express 2008 and Wss3.0

Few things u need to do

1. Add new metadata property using SSP Web Application for XZ, Lm and Version(
if not already exist )
2. in the advanced search  page XML , define those properties  with <property> tag
before you can have a <propertyRef > property Refernce tag..

You are right. Following steps you have to done

1. Give Full search  Crawl in Central Admin --> SSP1 --> Search Settings -->
Local Content Source Service

2. Add Metadata property in Central admin page.

3. Again you give full search.

4. Edit the Search Webpart and change the XML file  as per you created Metadata
