Search and Alert not working after installation

The search and alert features are not working after installation of SPS 2003.

If I search for an existing document it says search dint find results Check your Query.

Any idea as to why this is happening ….???

Did you happen to check your gatherer logs (http://<SPServer>/_layouts/1033/ListIndexes.aspx). Has a crawl already taken place, If so were there any errors?

I happened to delete my portal site..

IS there a way to restore it..Plzzz help.. all files have been deleted…

Of course. All you need to do is restore:

1. virtual server files on the file system
2. IIS metabase
3. the portal using spsbackup.exe

Did you have good backups of your farm, your metabase and your virtual server
files?

1. Ensure your search service is running
2. Check the gatherer logs to see what errors you're encountering
3. Check your default content access account to ensure it has read permissions to the content source
