The scope of Sharepoint: DIP, Email and KM?

Asked By: Veer    Date: Oct 29    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 899

My interest is in helping SMEs with document/knowledge management. I
have explored Sharepoint (briefly) and think that it offers an
excellent option for SMEs in the storage, retrieval and management of
documents via a 'familiar' Windows environment. However, three areas
of enquiry?

1. DIP: Are any of you using it for document image management? How
are you scanning? I'm not sure how far Sharepoint goes towards legal
admissibility requirements.

2. Email: Increasingly email records need to be retained within
secure audit trails for evidential purposes. What experiences do you
have at using Sharepoint to manage email?

I have published a vendor independent resource at
www.thedocumentsite.co.uk containing my thinking. I hope to shortly
expand this to contain solution sign-posting according to need. All
ideas and feedback most welcome!

3. KM: As Sharepoint offers collaboration/discussion features, it
goes some way towards a primary objective for KM solutions is the
capture of tacit knowledge. I am seeking evaluators of our MCI staff
collaboration solution to offer comparisons to Sharepoint; rather
than manage structured information resources, MCI is designed to
capture anecdotes, stories, contacts, ideas, discussions, staff
skills etc., organising them within a flexible taxonomy.
