How to save a site as a template?

Asked By: Bob    Date: Jul 27    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1830

I have created a Helpdesk Dashboard in SharePoint 2007. I want to
save the web site - http://portal/helpdesk_dashboard/default.aspx as a
template.

There is not a selection of "Save site as template" under the "Look
and Feel" or any of the site settings. I did find a selection
of "Save site as template" under the portal(moss) settings.

Does anyone know how to save an individual site
(http://portal/helpdesk_dashboard) as a template?

I don't understand. I don't see "Helpdesk Dashboard" listed on the New
SharePoint site  page. Where did you get the template?

The Site Settings page of every WSS v3 site that I've created  has a
"Save site as template". In the event I missed this template, perhaps
you want to try http://portal/helpdesk_dashboard/_layouts/savetmpl.aspx

I pulled the Helpdesk Dashboard template  into a SharePoint 2003 VM
and then upon another VM (SharePoint 2007) I recreated the
funcationality. So now I have a working web
site "http://moss1/MyNewHelpDesk_Dashboard/default.aspx" web site.
I want to save  this newly created  web site  as a site template, but
when I go to the site setting of
the "http://moss1/MyNewHelpDesk_Dashboard/default.aspx" there is not
a selection of "Save site as template" under the "Look and
Feel" or any of the other site headers.

It is this way when all the pages/web sites that I have created on
the SharePoint Developer image that we got from class. I looked
through the permissions that are on each of the newly created sites -
I am logged on as the administrator, but don't have the option to
save the site as a template. I am also working in the http://moss1
area of the image.

I think you have hit one of the bugs in beta 2, or you have the
publishing feature enabled. See if Mark Wanger's blog posting helps:
