Save site /list (with content) as a template

  Asked By: Akhila    Date: Jan 16    Category: MOSS    Views: 1285

You can save

* a whole site or just a
* single list

as a template that can be used to create a new instance of a whole site
/ single list.

When you save the whole site / single list as a template you have the
option to save the content (the metatdata in your case) in addition to
the site/list "structures".

By doing this, when you create a new instance of the site/list based on
the saved template, the new instance of the site/list will contain the
content (your metadata) previously saved in the template.

That's the general idea.

If you wanted to use the same populated metadata list in a lot of
different site templates then it would make sense to save the populated
metadata list as a list template that could then be used to create an
instance of the list in each site that is to be saved as a site
template.
