Rookie Network Admin

I'm a 'rookie' network admin,
and I've been tasked to build a company intranet. Up until this point,
I've been doing mostly desktop support. After a relatively short amount
of research, I've come to the conclusion that WSS is the best solution
for our environment. We're a small company (24 users) with offices in
Chicago, Boston, and Atlanta. I have all the HW and SW requirements on
my APP server - so I'm ready to get the party started.

Now that I've given you guys background - HELP! I've downloaded WSS and
my Project Director has given me til next Friday to have the intranet up
and running.

You need to have a glimpse at
www.microsoft.com/sharepoint. Since you already have
all the SW and HW required go ahead with installation.
Let me know some of the requirements  so that we can go
ahead with builing it.

The best investment you can make is to pick up a copy of the MS Press book:
Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies Resource Kit.

Thanks so much! I've been on the sharepoint page at the Microsoft
website. I've installed Sharepoint, and I'm going through the help
tutorials now. I'm about to purchase Frontpage 2003. My manager wants
the site to look like
www.sharepointcustomization.com/.../default.aspx .
Easy enough right? RIGHT. I've built sites using frontpage and that will
be the easy part. My focus will be on the back-end.

Well, here's what my company  wants to be featured on the intranet

file store
access to webmail (I've already set up using Exchange 2003)
link to company database
instant messaging - Not a necessity
outrageous homeowner stories (we're a condominium development company)
forms
company calendar (birthdays,vacation days)
word of the day
contacts
computer instructions/tips
acquisition update (top 3 in pipeline, monthly summary)
new hire biographies
company news letter
monthly memo from(Owner)
highlights of projects
pictures of all company functions
survey box for HR

I'm about to purchase Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies
Resource Kit (per Michael Herman - Thanks Michael) and see if I can find
any more literature and bury myself for the next week to bring this into
fruition. (hopefully)

Again, thanks for your help and you'll hear from me often!

I've installed WSS and frontpage 2003. I'm attempting to import a
template I downloaded form Microsofts site and it's asking me to make
sure I load the template in the default web for sharepoint. Where is the
default location in sharepoint that I should load the template too?
