Roll Up Capabilities with Data View Web Parts

Asked By: Kris    Date: Mar 22    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2208

The link to the blog is here:
Basically she describes a way to get roll up capability from a Data View web
I followed her instructions and am able to get roll up capability,
It seems that all of my fields have been turned to text fields and I am unable
to do any sort of calculations.
Specifically speaking, I created a content type of Project Status with site
columns of Allotted Hours and Hours Used..both the number data type.
I created two custom lists in two different subsites and added the content type
to the list.
Both list enties of both lists do show up in the web part, but I am trying to do
some conditional formatting to show the health of each of the projects (a
project dashboard if you will).
When I use the conditional formatting piece in SPD, no matter what field I
select(even ID), I get text only operators..even if I manually go into the web
part and change the formatting to number.

Has anyone experienced this?
Any ideas?
The rollup capability is huge, but if I can't manipulate the data once its
rolled up, then not sure what good it is..

I´m not totally sure, but have you checked the webparts from Quest? I think that
they heve not only roll  up but also calculation. but not sure.

I also tried several approaches by following instructions  from blogs. But all were of no efficiency.
I ended up by using SharePoint list  Collection www.sharepointboost.com/listcollection.html. It works like, I guess, webparts from Quest, mentioned by Britany Baird above. It is easy to use and relatively powerful as well.
