Restoring Deleted Site in 2003

Asked By: Rishi    Date: May 16    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1452

A user accidentally deleted a site in SPS2003 and our third-party backup
of the site is corrupt. What is the procedure for restoring the site
from a copy of the database?

I'm a WSS guy, so SPS might be different, but here's what I'd do:

1) Restore the DB.
2) Attach it to a different instance of SPS. It can't be a server in the same
farm, as some of the GUIDs will collide.
3) Verify you can hit the site  on the second environment.
4) Back it up with STSADM or FrontPage or whatever works best for you.
5) Restore that to production.

Again, SPS might introduce things that make that not work, but that's what I do
with WSS.
