Restore permissions

Asked By: Jasen    Date: Oct 22    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 10340

I have a quick question for you folks. I had a user, one of my
developers, who happens to have full permissions to my Sharepoint site,
lock out the Navigator Owners. In fact, nobody now has sufficient
permissions to modify permissions on this team site. Any idea how I can
reapply proper permissions to this team site?

Can you access the site? if not, you can add yourself as a site  collection
administrator from Central Administration for the hosting site collection.

If you can, you can modify  the Owners permission level from Site Settings,
People and Groups. There are other ways of accomplishing permissions  override,
but these are the simplest to start with.

The user  that made the changes to the permission of this team site  is a
member of Sharepoint owners  and what he did was take away full  access
from navigator owners. And now nobody appears to have sufficient
permissions to change permissions  on the team  site. I can however,
access the site. I don't seem to be able to follow your instructions.
They don't seem to be available. What about using stsadm?

A farm admin can go into Central Admin > Application Management > Policy
for Web application and add anyone as Full Control. This cannot be
overridden, so that user  will now have permission to fix whatever is
needed on the Site Collection.
