Restore to a different server

Asked By: Joshua    Date: Oct 13    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 678

I have an issue at work where they have loaded a new server with Sharepoint and
want me to "move" my current site to the new server. It is only one site that is
about 10GB when I back it up with STSAdmin utlility. Will I need to move the
databases over and then do a restore to the new server? Do I need to set up a
site on the new server and then restore to that? Will all of my security be
intact with the restore on the new server? I'm not really sure how to go about

You can simply run the 'stsadm.exe -o preparetomove' command against the
hosting content database. Then, unassociate it with the old farm,
re-associate with a web app in the new farm. With a few exceptions, your
site should now be in the new web app.
