Require users to enter Document Properties

Asked By: Tyler    Date: Nov 21    Category: MOSS    Views: 2450

Is there a way (via Group Policy) to force users to enter Document
Properties before saving their document?

I do remember seeing something like this when they went to upload the
Document to MOSS, but cannot for the life of me ...remember where I got
this from.

Via Group Policy? No. However, by making the field a "required" property,
SharePoint will force  the user to enter  data before it will save the document  in
the library. If you go to the Library settings you will see the Columns. Select
the column you wish to require  data for and edit it so that it must contain
data.

If you make the document  Properties "required" fields, the users  must enter
values for these fields before they can check-in the documents.

When they upload  the documents without the "required" fields the documents are
check-out and are not available to other users.
