Request time out error issue

Asked By: Ronald Ramirez         Date: Oct 05, 2006      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 491

Request time out error.
The issue I have is only regarding the one SharePoint Site which has
been created as a sub-site When we enter something into the search tab
at the top-right hand corner it seems to take a long time, then we get
the error request timed out. If I use the search facility at a library
level it works fine, it's just the search on the homepage. I have
changed some of the settings within the central administration page but
this did not seem to have any effect, I have also re-created this site
using this site as a template but this caused the same problem. I have
also tested other sites on the server including the top-level site for
this and all seems to work fine.

Does anybody have a suggestion? Where should I look for an error? Broken Index?
The search  works fine  on the library level the only issue  is on the top level
site. I didn't mentioned before - it happens in WSS

Was the subsite created  from a stock or a custom Site
Definition?

If stock, I think that you will probably need PSS help to discover the
problem. If custom, you may want to make sure that it is using the
standard WSS search  Web Part.

Have you tried this?
Go into your Shared Services Provider Admin page  then search  settings.
Click on reset all crawled content. After that go back to content
sources & crawl settings, make sure everythings OK there & initiate a
full crawl.

This may take a while, with no search results available but I think
it may fix the problem  of you having a corrupted search database.

One last thing, disable the alerts when you delete the crawl database
& turn them back on after the full crawl is done.
