Renaming MOSS Server

Asked By: Tapasvi    Date: Aug 22    Category: MOSS    Views: 849

Can anyone tell me the process to renaming a MOSS server successfully?
I am currently renaming the server and using the stsadm -o
renameserver command with no success.

We have 2 SharePoint servers, one being development the other
production. Both are using WSS - SharePoint 2.0.

The backup procedure within SharePoint asks for a unc path for the
backup. On the development server  we can just put in a drive letter and
directory for the backup and it works fine. The production server does
not accept anything. Always comes back with a message to put in a
proper unc path. Any ideas?

I would cimply put in \\servername\C$\folderPath even if the
servername is the servername you are running the backup from. That
hsould solve the problem. You are supposed to use a UNC path.

The -renameserver command  is performed after you have renamed the server
inside of the Windows OS. This command, stsadm.exe -o renameserver,
updates the configuration database only.

I used that command  after I renamed my server  and could not get to the
central administration page. Something I am missing?
