Renaming Files

I think I found YASPQ. In order to rename a document in a document in a
document library, it seems you need to have delete permissions. I would
think that edit permissions would be sufficient, but this is not the

Can anyone confirm that my findings are correct?

Does anyone know why this is? Is the database physically deleting and
recreating the file when you change the name? I thought it was just a
change in properties.

Correct. You need this because internally SharePoint doesn't just change  the
filename but phsically moves the file  which involves a delete  (at least
virtually in the db). This has been changed in V3.
