Rename Folder Automatically

Asked By: Callie    Date: Dec 15    Category: MOSS    Views: 1024

I have a document library that is email enabled, creating a folder based on the
subject, which holds a copy of the original email and any attachments.

There is a possibility that someone could inadvertently send an email with the
same subject as a previously received message, which would in turn overwrite the
older message and conceivably the attachments as well. My thought to get around
this is to automatically rename each folder as it is created, adding a randomly
created "key" value. This value could maybe be the full date and time the
message received or perhaps a hash value based on that date/time or something.

Does anyone have any idea how to do this? Or, do any of you have an alternative
solution? I'm sure this is probably all feasible with custom event handlers or
something, but I'm not particularly savvy when developing for Sharepoint.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

We are currently running WSS 3.0 if that makes any difference.
