Removing white space

  Asked By: Bennie    Date: Jul 05    Category: MOSS    Views: 3109

I am an administrator for MOSS who has lost their designer. My problem
is that I have been asked to remove some white space that resides under
the search bar. When I open the page in SPD, I cannot find where to
remove the space. All I see are place holders and as I am not a
designer, I am completely lost.

Can anyone help me in finding the correct place to remove the extra

Sounds like the real question is whether the white  space is in the
content page  or in the Master Page itself.

It's hard to tell without seeing your markup, but I'd guess you have
either some extra tags (BR or P) or a style that includes extra padding or
margin (either top or bottom, depending on which element is involved).

Now, how can I tell where it is?

Check to see that the image at the left of the page  (title bar  icon) isn't tall.
It probably is pushing the size of that entire row up. Smaller image = less
whitespace on that row all the way over...

The section of code that contains the search  box is listed below. This is
from the default.master file

<td class="ms-globalTitleArea">

<table width=100% cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 border=0>

<td id="GlobalTitleAreaImage" class="ms-titleimagearea">

<SharePoint:SiteLogoImage id="onetidHeadbnnr0"
LogoImageUrl="/_layouts/images/titlegraphic.gif" runat="server"/></td>

<td class="ms-sitetitle" width=100%>

<asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="PlaceHolderSiteName" runat="server">

<h1 class="ms-sitetitle">

<SharePoint:SPLinkButton runat="server" NavigateUrl="~site/"

<SharePoint:ProjectProperty Property="Title" runat="server" />

<td style="padding-top:8px;" valign=top>

<asp:ContentPlaceHolder id="PlaceHolderSearchArea" runat="server">

<SharePoint:DelegateControl runat="server" ControlId="SmallSearchInputBox"/>

If it isn't the size of the image making the section taller, then it is most
likely one of the CSS classes in this section. These can be found in the
core.css file in the _styles folder of your site.
