Reliable Chat Room on SharePoint

Asked By: Karen    Date: Jan 14    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 3378

Our 24/7 Support team keeps SharePoint up as they do their work--one of
the two or three apps/tools that stay open all of the time. We've moved
to a bi-located situation and would like to keep a "chat room" open to
facilitate communication between the locations, but we do not want to
add more apps/tools to the ones they keep open all the time.

The corporate chat solution is MS Communicator, but it has proven to be
unreliable. It drops unexpectedly, is not always accurate about a person
being "online", etc. Does anyone know a reliable chat room Webpart that
I can incorporate into SharePoint for our support folks?

We use LCS and none of those problems exist (but that doesn’t mean that I like your idea). I bet one could be created, even using top notch “shoutbox” style AJAX even. Or using the live support  things and just using a page viewer web part could even be a route?

Just trying to expand a bit on your idea, it is a good one!

why has MS communicator proven to be unreliable?

We couldn't use LCS due to how our network is setup (don't ask - long

If you have any other solutions I would be highly interested in knowing.
