Cannot reinstall SharePoint

Asked By: Noah    Date: Oct 11    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1298

we had a disk problem and needed to do a restore from backup. (the
failure was where the web storage system data was stored not on the system
boot drive where the SPS application is installed). I had to uninstall
SharePoint SP1 because it was not coming up correctly on the system drive
because it could not connect to the web storage system(which was restored
from a tape backup) I could not even run msdmback to restore the
workspaces. We were able to uninstall SharePoint, now we are trying to
reinstall SharePoint but the iinstall fails after copying some files and I
keep on getting the following error in the error log generated under
c:\program files\Microsoft Integration\SharePoint Portal Server\Logs

[10/03/02,19:00:04] SharePoint Portal Server: [0]
CPkmSetupComponent::InstallMSIPackage, MSI Package (spsclisrv) setup failed
with error code 0x80070641. Command=msiexec.exe. Args= -i "C:\Program
Files\SharePoint Portal Server\Bin\spsclisrv.msi" /q -l*v "C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Integration\SharePoint Portal Server\Logs\spsclisrv.Log"

I have rebooted and tried to install SP multiple times but I get the same
thing. I have even follwoied the manual remove instructions on the KB

but I still get the same errors... any ideas? Running Windows 2000 Server,

you have to copy the spsclient.msi (or the file like this) in the same folder
with spsclisrv.msi

I had the same problem, and the only solution was to copy the installation files
to hard disk, and copy the spsclisrv.msi to the folder of the spsclient.msi, and
then perform the install.
