Redirection question

Asked By: Bhavani    Date: May 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 644

Our SharePoint admin left company and I am System Engineer without
any SharePoint training so I am going to ask probably very obvious
question to you all.

We refer to
http://sharepoint/sites/MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments/default.aspx
as our start SharePoint website. On this website we have shortcuts to
all other SharePoint websites, forms, docs, etc.

I connect to http://sharepoint/default.aspx when creating new SP
websites and there is nothing else on this page. I got request to
setup http://sharepoint/ to go to
http://sharepoint/sites/MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments/default.aspx
as users don't want to remember such a long link.

I am wondering if we are actually utilizing Project Server as
SharePoint start page and if instead of redirection I need to
migrate everything from this site to http://sharepoint/default.aspx?
We are looking to upgrade 2003/WSS2.0 to MOSS2007/3.0 in near
feature. I heard there is separation between Project Server and
SharePoint with new version and if indeed we are using Project Server
website as SharePoint start page should I fix this before upgrade?

Check blog about some redirection  options you have,
www.toddklindt.com/.../Post.aspx?ID=48 Look for the part
about redirecting from a deep URL.

Will I have any issues if I leave
http://sharepoint/sites/MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments/default.aspx
as default SP start  page once I upgrade  to MOSS?

No idea, I've never used Project Server. I would recommend removing any
redirection right before you do the upgrade.
