Redirect page question

  Asked By: Aiesha    Date: Feb 22    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 56789

I'm working on a prototype intranet and I have several site
collections (1 for each division, HR, IT, Marketing, etc) and I
created another to use as a welcome site. I created re-direct pages
in this site to take me to the other collection sites and I'm planning
to do the same in each site to take me back to the home site. The
problem I have is that the redirect pages have a 5 second delay that I
want to remove but can't figure out how. I cannot do it through the
browser because is not one of the options and can't do it through
Designer either. It's making me wonder if this is the best design for
my intranet.

Can anyone give me some light?

What is causing the 5 second delay? Server.Transfer and
Response.Redirect from code, HttpHandler and HttpModules, and even HTML
meta tag refreshes can all be instantaneous.

It is caused by a meta tag refresh, it even says that in the page
(This page  is redirecting to http://server:1000/Pages/Default.aspx in
5 seconds.), and it was created  with the page, I just took the
defaults. The problem is that I don't know where to change it. When
I try to open the page in Designer it tells me if I want to edit the
layout page or edit the page in the browser but I can't change the
refresh on either.

There is certainly a way to change a meta tag refresh to zero seconds,
but I don't know understand where your redirect  page is or how it was
created. In essence, the underlying HTML (or Source) in the head of your
redirect page  must change from something that looks like this:

<meta http-equiv="refresh"
content="5;url=http://server:1000/Pages/Default.aspx" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://server:1000/Pages/Default.aspx" />

<meta http-equiv="refresh"
content="0;url=http://server:1000/Pages/Default.aspx" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://server:1000/Pages/Default.aspx" />

I know how to change the meta tag. The problem is I don't know where
to do it. Let me explain to you what I did:

created  several site  collections, A, B, C, etc.
I created another called Home. In this site I added a page  thru Site
Actions > Create Page, Gave iot the name of my site A and chose the
Redirect Page layout. This created the page right where I wanted it
but with the 5 second delay. This is the page I cannot edit. When I
open it in Designer it asks me if I want to edit it in the browser or
edit the layout in Designer.

I'm probably way off, but can you pull up the source code in the
ASPX file of the splash page  in FrontPage to change the redirect
time from 5 seconds to 0 seconds?

<META http-equiv=Refresh content="0;
URL=http://www.mywebpage.com/default.aspx">
