Recurring error opening site

Open SharePoint Designer and select a site from Recent Sites List and I get an error:

The parameter is incorrect

There is only one button OK, when I click that SharePoint Designer repeats the error. Previously to get out I had to open task manager and cancel the application. Now after clicking OK a few times I get three options (not exact words)

Close Application and check online for a solution
Close and Restart the Application
Debug the error

I have had this error before with other sites. Googled the error but did not find a solution or explanation. Any help appreciated.

This error usually occurs due to rights issue. Check if you have appropriate rights on corresponding sites. Check your Domain and Security settings. You could delegate site control via SharePoint Admin.
