Re-install Office SP Search Server on WFE

Asked By: Rachel    Date: May 18    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1372

I changed a configuration option on the Search Settings page in my Shared
Services Provider. I got the message "The Office SharePoint Server Search
service that was enabled on this server will be uninstalled . . . ". I didn't
seriously consider the consequences of this action. This deleted the
mssearch.exe from my WFEs.

How do I get the Office SharePoint Server Search service back on the WFEs?

In Central Administration, in Operations, go to Services on Server. Select the
server you want to enable search  on. Next to Office sharepoint  Search, select
Start. You will have to complete a form to indicate whether you are configuring
the server  for indexing or query and other necessary details.

Note that the Office SharePoint Search service  is "osearch.exe". Despite that
message, it doesn't get deleted  if you remove the service from the server in
central admin, just disabled.
