Quickly Switching Security Context

Asked By: Rocco Hendricks         Date: Jan 28, 2005      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 217

Is there any tools out there that allow you to see the portal pages in
various security contexts? As an administrator I would like to be able
to downgrade my security rights while viewing a portal page so I can see
how it would look for a particular user or group. Is there any way to
do this without logging into the portal under a different user account?

Perhaps "run as ..." could do the trick? Create testaccounts according
to the accounts or groups you would like to check. Then start your
browser using "run as ..." and type in the credentials you want to
use. Works for me

i use "run as" all the time! not as great as sudo but it does the trick 90% of the time.

I was hoping for something like a tool bar for IE or perhaps something nifty in Front Page with the Preview view.

Tools | Internet Options | Security | Custom Level

At the very bottom, select "Prompt for User Name and Password."

I'm such a dork, I thought that this was the way to do this.
