A quick way to find what template was used?

I was just asked by a colleague if I knew of a way to determine what
template was used to create a site. Is there a quick way to determine
this?

Not really a quick  way. There is a field in the database that shows the
template that was used to create  a site. Or you can create a site
template from it, rename the .stp to .cab and look at the XML file
inside. The original site  definition will be listed in there also.
