Question about security in WSS 2003

Asked By: Chelsea Gray         Date: Apr 09, 2006      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 203

created a site that inherits permissions from the parent site. I
have one list in this site, and it requires content approval. There
is a new pending item in the list.

I wanted to see if I could make it so everyone could see what's
pending from the main page. So I added a list view web part, chose
the "approve/reject items" view, modified it so it would only show
pending items, then applied it to the main page.

Suddenly, people who had access to the site no longer could get in.
Is it all because of this one web part on the main page? When I read
Microsoft's little "help" file on content approval, it specifically
says that "users" can see pending and rejected items, so why isn't
this working the way I'd hoped?

Any ideas? Solutions? And could anyone else describe some weird
security/rights issues they've encountered? I've seen some other
weird ones that I have yet to understand (like giving someone rights
to a single list in a subsite where they do not have
permissions...and they can't access the list).
