Question regarding collection backups using STSADM ENUMSITES and BAC

Asked By: Krista    Date: Oct 07    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 6435

I have a script that creates a list of sites (using STSADM enumsites)
that are then backed up (using STSADM backup).

I want to only backup sites that have been modified.

Enumsites does not get granular enough to do a diff between the Enum
results of today and yesterday.

The "catastrophic" switchs backup up everything and i am trying to find
a way to backup sites twice daily that requires little overhead.

Does anyone have a script or suggestion on how to do a differential
site collection backup?

In the v2 space I had to write something that did this. I haven't found
that functionality in v3/MOSS and I haven't tried my program to see if
it works with v3/MOSS or not. If you don't find anything else let me
know and I'll test my program out.

I too had this functionality in SpS03 /WSSv2.
I am having trouble duplicating it in MOSS 07 /v3.

If you have time to test it that would be great!
I have been trying to find a way to make the results of Enumsites more
granullar; specifically when it lists the site size. I could then use that to
create a script  to compare the previous enumsites results with the current and
backup the differences.

STSADM backup  only backs up full site collections, not individual sites.
STSADM Import/Export can be used to backup individual sites, but its not
as full fidelity a backup as STSADM Backup.
