Question about Peoplepicker

Asked By: Geena    Date: Feb 13    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1871

Simply put, my question is:

What is the difference between how the Peoplepicker control resolves
a name when you click on the "Check Names" function vs. when you use
the "Browse" function?

I have a situation where I enter a user id and click on the 'Check
Names' button and it will resolve the name and replace it with the
domain/userid. If I lookup the same userid in the 'Browse' function
it does not return any results.

The network environment is a semi-complex forest and we had to have
Microsoft assist us in setting up the peoplepicker properties to only
search specific domains. But what is strange is that users who are in
a WINNT domain are found when you enter just the user id and click
on 'Check Names', but the browse function is not finding them. The
browse functionality is expected since it is a WINNT domain and I
have not figured out how to browse a WINNT domain, but yet the name
resolves with 'Check Names'.

I hope I have explained this clear enough. Your answers will help me
better understand this strange control.

regardless of how you scope the people picker, manually entering the username
should always find the correct people, i.e. domain\username, because that is
bypassing the custom LDAP query. The peoplepicker  scope looks to be out of
whack. I would check  the settings again.
