Question on assigning permissions to a site

We had a user error and had a site deleted. Site was
http://server/sites/company/dept. Had lots of problems with the restore
and ended up getting everything restored to another virtual server then
recreating the dept subsite and copying files between the restore site
to the prod site.

Now, I know I created the dept site on our production server and yet,
when I click Site Settings, under Administration I only see Manage Sites
and Workspaces and Go to Site Administration. I don't have the Manage
Users and Configure Sites and Workspace Creation menu choices. How can
I give myself further permissions this subsite?

I would suggest exploring the additional roles using STSADM.EXE. I don't have access to the app at the moment but it allows you to add users as well as change roles within the site.

Sounds like you set it to Inherit site Permissions. You can simply go into Site Settings and change this there. You want to set Unique permissions on this site and that will allow you to manage the Users. Right now its inheriting its permissions from the site above.

Your using permission inheritance. Go to Site Administration, click
Manage Permissions and Inheritance, then select the option for unique
users or something like that (going from memory here - flying home to
MSP right now).
