Do I need to purchase the Extranet Connector?

Asked By: Karen    Date: Sep 18    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 890

If I create an ASP.NET website as our company Extranet and it has some
links to WSS sites on our SPS server, do I still need to Extranet Connector
for SPS or just the one for WSS? The Extranet users won't have any access
to the Portal Areas, only a few WSS sites.

We were told by Microsoft that as long as users  weren't using Portal, you only had to have the correct licenses for WSS, even if Portal is installed on the server.

Now, I personally thought this was incorrect, but when a software vendor says you don't have to pay $30k, you just do as they say.

Excellent, works for me! You did still have to pay the 2k for the
Windows 2003 Connector..........correct?

One team doesn’t know what the other team is saying……………It is my understanding that if you install the binaries for portal  server, you need a license whether or not you’re using it. But if you have written confirmation to the contrary, by all means, go with that.

I totally agree. You need to get confirmation from Microsoft. We asked the correct group of people at Microsoft twice about the situation. However, if you get audited, saying "This guy on Yahoo! groups told me it would be fine" will NOT help you! ;-) Get it in writing from Microsoft.
