Publishing websites in SPS

I have this question : lots of people in our firm have
created their own little website. Now I must ressemble those in SPS.
What I do is this : i copy the whole website on the SPS-site. The
only inconvenience is that I have to publish every document
afterwards.
Is this the right procedure, or do I have it all wrong and is there
another way to do this ?
