Two of us have worked 70% effort for ~1yr to put up a PM site for our
company's internal audit projects. It's up, fairly successful, and is our
formal system-of-record. We are a 17,000 person company. We have a MOSS
enterprise installation.

It was done completly with Sharepoint's UI, SharePointDesigner, and a few 3rd
party WebParts. No use of MS project  whatsoever. If you'd like to speak or
maybe arrange a short demo, send me a separate eMail. The nature of your
projects and what you'd like to get out of it all are KEY. The biggest lesson
is "know what you are going to do before you begin."

I would be interested in talking with you / seeing a short demo. My CIO
has not been happy with any of the designs that are relatively low in
cost. Maybe we can create something in-house as you did.

If you would like to evaluate an out-of-the-box solution  for managing work and projects on sharepoint  you should take a look at BrightWork pmPoint. This comes with a number of site templates that deliver varying levels of management  and enables you to import MS project  plans and report across a range of projects. It is especially useful for those who don't have the maturity or resources for implementing Project Server.
