Problems downloading Zip files from SharePoint

We've got an established SPS setup, along with a number of sites sitting underneath the portal.

Staff have reported that downloading Zip files from document libraries results in corrupted files. We have not (as far as I can tell) got IIS 6 compression turned on - I mention this because it has been known to be a cause of this problem.

Has anyone got any suggestions on why this might be happening and how I can fix it?
