Problems with deploying new sites based on a custom site definition

Asked By: Laci    Date: Jan 15    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1082

I've been following the custom site definition steps described in
Todd Bleeker's Developer's Guide, creating a new Visual Studio 2008
project and setting up the project as described so that it copies the
new webtemp.xml file and resets stuff as needed. These steps work
fine as far as getting the listing to show up correctly in the "Create
Site" option lists.

Since I'm trying to customize a meeting site definition, I then went
ahead and added in the ONET.XML file from
\12\TEMPLATE\SiteTemplates\MPS\XML into the XML directory for my
Visual Studio project and added the default.aspx file from
\12\TEMPLATE\SiteTemplates\MPS directory into the root of the project
alongside the WEBTEMP_PROJECT.XML file that was created. However,
when I go to create a site off of the custom definition, I get the
following error:

Exception from HRESULT: 0x81070201

The logs reflect a failure to open the schema.xml file for reading, as
well as failures to find certain list schemas (which I'm assuming are
a consequence of not being able to open schema.xml).

Is there a step I missed wherein I have to reference schema.xml from someplace?
