Problem of the Year award...

Asked By: Mitchell    Date: Nov 07    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 734

I think this one may be nominated for a problem of the Year

Here is the deal:

We have a medium SPS 2003 / WSS 2.0 Farm (2 FeW, 1 job.idx, 2-node AP
SQL Cluster). There are approx 12-14 virtual servers and 12 portals
that make up this farm. Pretty much a default setup, not a lot of
hidden magic. Security is facilitated to the users via. Active
Directory groups which give them various access to each portal.

I basically was the creator of the environment, farm administrator and
member of all admin groups. In addition I am the owner of many Team
Sites and also act as a co-owner to every other site in the business
(where the 'owner' of these sites is a business user - various
throughout our organization).

Well, for whatever reason (ahem...) my user account was accidentally
deleted out of Active Directory. The AD guys created me a new user
account with the same name and put it in the same groups as the old one.

After struggling hard and for days through the disastrous remains of all
my workstations, all of my files, Db connections and profiles, etc I
finally have everything back in order (I think).

Except SharePoint

Here is what's happening with SPS/WSS: Every time I try to access a
portal, team site or anything in our farm through my account I only
receive an error. The error is just a white page that reads "Cannot
complete this action. Please try again." and it lets me no further.
(screenshot attached) here is the error:

I do have another administration account that I can perform SPS/WSS
admin with, however I could only do this on the Front-end server.

My question (or thoughts about resolution) is how to I return everything
back to normal? I want to continue to use my 'new' account to manage
the farm from my workstation the same way my 'old' account worked.

Does anyone have any ideas or recommendations on how to proceed? I
don't want to deal with PSS if this is simple and easy but I'm just
overlooking the obvious because I don't fully understand something..
