Problem using stock and weather webpart

Asked By: Kara Woods         Date: Mar 14, 2009      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 286

I am trying to use the "stock webpart" and "Weather webpart" available
on microsoft site as downloads. But, when I drag them on to a webpage a
message comes to use digital dashboard 3.0 for using these webparts. Is
there no other way to use them. I have sharepoint 2003 installed on my
machine. And if it is mandatory to use digital dashboard, then where to
get this digital dashboard from???

Sounds like you grabbed the SPS 2001 web parts (Digital Dashboard is the
development name for SPS 2001). There are updated versions of these available
for SPS/WSS 2003 as part of the Online Web Part Gallery. Check out the
Administrator's Guide for info on how to configure this - there is nothing else
to install.

I tried to configure the online gallery but it is giving me the
following error...
"Cannot open the Online Gallery. The site  server has not been
configured to support an online gallery. For more assistance, contact
your site administrator."
I enabled the online gallery through administration. But, still I am
unable to access it. It is showing no webparts. I changed the
web.config of the virtual server for proxy settings. But, still its
not working.... What should I do????
I have done the steps that are mentioned in admin guide.
Does any other service also needs to be enabled that I am missing???

I added those via frontpage 2003 by searching the online gallery.. they
don't "work" in the preview and give the exact same error, but when you save
them and view them on the site  they are fine.

Have you restarted IIS after the web.config changes? Does your proxy require
authentication of any kind?

I had reset the iis after modifying the web.config....
And yes my rpoxy requires authentication...
But, how to supply my credentials in web.config?????
this may be the reason ...
I also tried to use the "quite quote" webpart  provided as a download
in office 2003 webparts...
but this is also not working...
When I give a symbol it doe not retrieve any data from the site....
Any clues???

The authentication on the proxy is indeed the issue - it's not possible to set
this up with credentials.
