Problem with security model

Asked By: Ali    Date: Dec 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 786

We are using "Basic Authentication" with SSL enabled on my site. We
are using the PKMCDO dll for developing admin dashboard. For this we
have created components in Visual Basic. Now my probelm is that
whenever a call is made to the component a login popup box is
displayed everytime. This is very irritating and it will increase the
resistance of our users to us the site. Is it possible to use "Basic
Authentication" only during logging into the site and then use "NTLM
Authentication" ?

As a workaround i created one "default.asp" with "Basic
Authetication" and web site also with "Basic Authentication".
Everything else including thye workspace uses on "NTLM
Authentication". I put that asp in the root of the web site. This asp
gets called when the site is opened (using the server name "only"
http://<servername>) and redirects the user to the "workspace".

This solved my problem but with one bug in it. If the user navigates
directly to the workspace using http://<servername>/<workspace> then
the "Login Dialog Box" doesn't show up ( but naturally) and leaves a
hole in my security.

Any thoughts/ suggestions / ideas would be very very helpful.
