Problem: Login Required for a Word doc

I have 1 user here that every time she tries to open a word document
from the document library she is asked to login. When she puts in
her user name and password she is denied access, however when she
just clicks cancel the document opens. She can open an excel or
PowerPoint without any problems, just not word? I have checked to
make sure she has access to the workspace (She is an author). I
have checked the documents themselves to make sure they are not
password protect and they are not. Is there somewhere else I can
look or does anybody know why this is happening and how I can make
it stop!!!!!

check your Microsoft Office and see if you have the latest service packs.
The latest IE browser version will be helpful too.

Also check DNS and WINS on that machine. If it's trying to open  a FQDN
instead of Netbios name (ie, server.domain.com instead of just server),
then you might get the authentication.

However, this is usually due to them being a reader and not an author.
Double and triple check that the user  is logged in as who you think they
are. Do a 'net config workstation' from a command prompt and check.
