Problem Using External Config Script

Asked By: Sydney    Date: Sep 16    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 654

We are running SPP Server 2001internally without FQDN. In preparation for
opening up the protal to external access we had followed the White paper and it
worked as far as we could test but could not test accesss from Internet until we
installed a PKI certificate to require SSL for external connection. So we
removed the external configuration until we get the certificate.

After about a month now, we decided to go ahead and set up the external
configuration anticipating that we will get the certificate soon. But that is
another issue. Based on a recommendatiobn from this list, I decided to try the
configuration tool. I ran the tool and it appeared to work great setting up the
additional web site. All looked promising until I tried to connect to the
external web. I got a page cannot be displyed error for the workspace but an asp
page in the root of the server displyed fine so I knew the web was working.
About that time I got a call stating that the internal portal accesss was hosed.
Everyone was getting an error telling them to connect the Admin and have the
admin correct the proxy configuration.

I removed the external web site and ran proxycfg.exe to get the proxy setting
corrected for the internal portal.

Any idea why the proxy setting got hosted?
