Problem with DB Maintenance Jobs on SERV database SP2003

I am experiencing a problem with the Integrity Checks and Optimizations
jobs on SQL 2000 for SharePoint 2003 SERV database.
I only get a "Step Failed" message.
The SERV mdf is only 145 MB.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

We found the resolution to this problem.
It is addressed in this KB article
