I was told by Microsoft that the web  folder has to use a NetBIOS name
and not an FQDN name for the computer name. Another way to create  your
web folder  is by using IE. Use the following steps:

1. Open IE.
2. Select File in the menu and click on Open.
3. An Open dialog box will open.
4. Type in http://computer-name/workspace/.
5. Make sure the "Open as Web Folder" is checked.
6. Click OK.

You will be prompted for a username and password. The web folder items
will be displayed in IE but if you go to your network neighborhood or my
network places, you will also see the web folder that you just created.
I hope this solves your problem.

Can you ping the computer using the NetBIOS name?

I had tried that and tried it again but I get a message  back from IE saying
it could not open http://xyz/abc as web  folder. Would you like to see
its default view?

This is from IE 6.0. And thanks for the info.

We have some clients who get this message  and most who do not. I still
can't figure out what's special about these two clients who can't map a
webfolder.

Exactly. That's what I see here. Most clients can create  a web  folder but it
looks like my biggest headache is with XP boxes.

And to answer, yes I can ping it from the client.

Interesting. What I see is the XP clients (we only have two) are AWESOME
and everything seems easy, much faster, and overall better. I have an XP
client under my desk as a secondary system and copying files into web
folders is about twice as fast as the win2k boxes.

The machine that's having the problem  is a win2k box that's very much like
all others. When they try to add the web  folder, they get an error message
of:

The folder  you entered  does not appear to be valid. Please choose
another.

Any tips on what to look for?
