I have recently run into a problem using check out and check in Windows
SharePoint Services. I have Office 2003 on my PC. I went into a document library
and selected "Check Out and Save" for a document drop-down menu. A window popped
up for me to select "Open" or "Save". I selected Open which caused the same
window to pop-up a 2nd time. After selecting Open a 2nd time the document opened
in Word. In the title bar of this window the name of the document shown but it
had (1) next to the name. I thought this was unusual.

I made a change to the document, saved it and closed Word. I selected "Check In"
from the document drop-down menu. Then I opened the document to view the change
but there was no change. Version control is turned on for this document library.
I went throught these steps a number of times with the same result.

Has anyone run across this problem in WSS? Any suggestions to fix this or
setttings to check in WSS?
