Pre-Populated Fields

Asked By: Charmaine    Date: Oct 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2250

Has anyone ever found a way to pre-select a value in a SharePoint list add-form based on a querystring parameter or other such method?

Suppose, for example, you have two lists – one called Customers and one called Contacts. A customer has one or more contacts, and all contacts belong to a particular customer. The Contacts list contains a Lookup field called Customer that points to the Customers list.

I’m trying to think of a creative way to display a link on the Customer detail page to add a new contact. So when you are viewing the detail for a single customer, you can click on the Add Contact button, which would display the standard New Item form for the Contacts list, but with a twist – the Customer Lookup field would already be populated with the correct value.

this could certainly be done using JavaScript. If it's just a
one-off, consider using a Content Editor Web Part.
